Who knew mayo was so useful...

Admittedly, I don’t like mayonnaise - in fact there are few food products that I dislike more. But my husband loves it and the kids’ favorite sandwich is tuna fish so a few years ago I made the switch to avocado mayonnaise. I still don’t love it, but I like it a lot better and like that it is quite a bit healthier for the family. And while I’m still not sold on the taste, I am in love with some of the crazy hacks that you can do with mayonnaise! If you are interested in reading why it’s healthier, read here. If you’re looking for a recipe to make your own, I think this one looks good but I haven't tried it. I usually get ours from Thrive Market and now Costco has it in stock.
Anyway, back to the hacks… a little while ago when my husband and I were trying to move a VERY heavy armoire. We accidentally dropped it resulting in the need to repair the wall and scratches on our wood floor. As seems to be the case with most things the past couple of years, I went to grab some wood floor polish and stopped to read the ingredients. Ug, another product I did not feel safe using in the house. So I took out the trusty computer and started doing some research on safer ways to fix scratches in wood. I was surprised and super skeptical when I found a few different sites claiming that mayonnaise would help with the scratches. But since we had the mayo in the fridge and it was free to try, I gave it a shot. Most of the sites that I found basically said all that needs to happen is:
1. you clean the surface and let it dry
2. with a clean dry rag you rub the mayonnaise all over the scratches and let it sit for a minimum of a few hours (preferably overnight)
3. Wipe the mayonnaise off, buff with a clean rag, and viola.
So I tried it on the floors. And it worked. Okay, not perfectly, but for a simple hack with no sanding, toxic chemicals, etc., I was extremely impressed. So I did it on our wood coffee table with similar positive results. It’s now my go to solution for simple scratches. One additional consideration - if you have dogs, you may want to block off the area. Our dog loves to lick the mayonnaise off before it does its magic!
Here are before and after of the table:

As I was researching for this blog post I found this article on all the things you can use mayonnaise for. I LOVE it! I may have to try one a day to see how many of them actually work. Might need the Costco size jar after all. Maybe the blog will just become all things mayo. Wouldn’t that be ironic for a self-reported mayo hater - ha!
