My very favorite cleaning thing ever...

I first heard of microfiber cloths from a friend selling Norwex almost 10 years ago, I bought a few towels and I was sold. I loved that I could clean everything with only water plus, microfiber is more absorbent than cotton, uses no chemicals, and cleans better than anything else I had tried previously. Microfiber is a synthetic material – usually a blend of nylon and polyester. The cloths used for cleaning are made from split microfiber because when microfibers are split they become much more absorbent. They can remove large quantities of microbes, including hard-to- kill spores and because they are positively charged they attract negatively charged dirt and grease. Therefore, when you use microfiber you can clean with just water instead of chemicals. A few years ago Moja Works reached out to me to see if I would try some of their products. I told them I would, but was skeptical of anything beating my Norwex towels. I asked them the difference. They responded that their fibers are 1/200th of a human hair instead of 1/100th of other microfibers and have 1.6 million fibers/inch. According to Moja Works website their towels remove up to 99.9% of germs, mold, bacteria, viruses, etc.* For 20% off, you can enter toxfree20 at checkout. I have also heard good things about eCloths which you can get from Grove Market.

One of the best things about microfiber is that you can wash and reuse. Basically you can tell when they are not working as well and I usually wash once a week in the washer and air dry (I have read that you should wash separately, but I’ve been mixing them with other laundry – may need to change that habit). Once they start to seem ineffective or if they start to smell, boil them in water and one-fourth cup of baking soda for 10-15 minutes.

In addition to what I was first sent, I have now bought a mop (plus gifted one), glass cleaning towels, face and body towels and a cast iron towel. I literally love them all. I know, it’s a little weird to love a towel – but once you try them you’ll understand!

*From mojaworks.com: ”It is critical to understand that “effectiveness” in this case means the removal of Biofilm and other contaminants.  Biofilm is the microscopic protein residue from food, bugs, bacteria, etc.  Paper towels and other low-quality cloths do not have the structural quality to remove these nasty remains.  Without a network of millions of fine fibers to sweep it away, the Biofilm simply get smeared around on your surfaces and lays the breeding ground for more bacteria.  Even the use of popular cleaning chemicals can do NOTHING to remove this sickening matter … they may kill it (aka “disinfect”) but the carcasses remain.  Plus, at that point you are dealing with another problem, which is the chemical residue that now coats your surfaces and may cause other health issues over time.  Yes, it’s gross to talk about, but you certainly deserve to know.”
